East Wenatchee is the landing spot of the first non-stop, trans-Pacific flight.
On October 5, 1931, Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon belly-landed their plane, Miss Veedol, at Fancher Field. This landing completed a forty-one hour, over 5,500 mile flight from Misawa, Japan. To commemorate this event, the cities of East Wenatchee and Misawa formed a Sister City relationship with Misawa.
Each year, the Wenatchee Valley Misawa Sister City Association sends a delegation of local residents to Misawa.
