TRAVEL ADVISORY

Nov. 8, 2022

Emergency repairs will require SR 28 bypass closure in East Wenatchee starting Thursday

EAST WENATCHEE – A project to repair ongoing settlement issues below the roadway will require the closure of the SR 28 bypass ramp near Fred Meyer in East Wenatchee beginning Thursday.

A storm sewer pipe below the roadway failed, allowing stormwater to infiltrate the road base causing settling. This emergency project will replace the stormwater pipe and fill the voids caused due to the stormwater infiltration. Pipkin Construction is the contractor for this emergency repair project.

The bypass will be closed on Thursday beginning at 6 a.m. for the work. Repairs will be conducted 7 days per week and are expected to take approximately 10 days depending on the amount of repair required beneath the road. The bypass will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the project. Motorists on southbound SR 28 will be detoured to Wenatchee and back on SR 285 across the George Sellar Bridge. The 5th St. ramp traveling west from the mall in East Wenatchee will also be closed to keep traffic flowing on the detour.

Updates for the work will be shared on the WSDOT Real Time Travel Map (Link), and on Twitter at @WSDOT_East (Link).
